"Poroshiri" is a potato variety that has the right sugar content for making potato chips and is strong enough to withstand storage, and is named after Mount Poroshiri, the main peak of the Hidaka Mountains in Tokachi.
It also means "big mountain" in the Ainu language, and is a sweet potato that is imbued with the hope that the plant will grow big.
